Bubble Watch: 2/26/08
First, the recap: Big Ten: Ohio State. The Big Ten??s weekly entrant in this column is one loss away from dropping out of the bracket. OSU is an abysmal 1-8 against the RPI Top 50. Fortunately, or unfortunately, for them they still have three opportunities to improve that record: Indiana, H-Purdue, and H-Michigan State in the last two weeks of the regular season. Pac 10: Arizona Wildcats. Arizona actually got a better split in Washington by losing to the Huskies but beating the Cougars. Folk

Bubble Watch 3/3
What is with all the bubble home teams blowing huge leads this weekend? Syracuse, St Joe??s and Maryland all blew second half leads which could have greatly improved their chances. Now, all three face must-win games to end the regular season. Clemson, Miss St and Pitt moved into the tourney with road wins against fellow bubble teams, while Ohio St, Kent St, Texas A&M, Houston and the three teams mentioned above all took major hits with losses. Conference tournaments start on Tuesday and y

GameDay Open Thread Cal vs. USC
Well the game is not on TV tonight so it will be tough to do an active thread. SC takes on 9th place Cal tonight at the Galen Center. Cal beat SC early on in Pac 10 play so SC has some revenge on its mind. I really think we need a sweep this weekend to ensure a place in the tournament and if we have a poor showing in the Pac 10 Tournament. Here are some notes from today’s L.A. Times: One team is in the upper tier of the Pacific 10 Conference and seems bound for the NCAA tournament. The other

The Pac 10 Big Game: Stanford at UCLA: Bruins Win in OT, 77-67
It was a heavy weight game played by two of the best teams in the country. UCLA wins the Pac 10 regular season title out right 77-67 15-2 in conference play. The Bruins were unflappable down the stretch and Stanford gave the Bruins one extra possession in the final two minutes by playing too quickly. However, that little show of jitters did not come back to bite Stanford. What did cost them the game was a 20-7 UCLA run in the game??s final six minutes, or so and the Cardinal??s inability to r

UCLA Slaps Stanford, Wins 3rd Pac-10 Title In Row
UCLA Slaps Stanford, Wins 3rd Pac-10 Title In Row Three was a special number for UCLA Thursday night. The 3rd-ranked Bruins clinched their 3rd-straight Pac-1o regular-season title with a 77-67 OT win over 7th ranked Stanford. In addition, UCLA set a new regular-season school record by notching their 27th victory of the year. Coincidentally, 27 is divisible by 3 3 x 9 = 27, as is the 144 total points scored in Thursday??s game 3 x 48 = 144. Weird, eh? OK, maybe not. But the win does give

Do You Believe In Miracles?
For about 39 minutes and change, I thought we were looking at UW 2007. If you’ll recall, we went into Pullman and clinched the outright Pac 10 title, and proceeded to lay an egg in Seattle. We were tired, sluggish, not rotating properly, and generally having a hangover from Thursday’s thriller. And that was just on Defense. On offense, we were having trouble finishing plays early and having trouble hitting wide open jumpers. I was all set to rip into this team with a post discussing what happe

Quite The Difference A Year And A Coach Makes
At this time last year I couldn’t watch the Gophers men’s basketball team. The games were so incredibly infuriating to watch and Jim Molinari, no offense intended, didn’t strike me as someone who could turn this program around. Enter Tubby Smith. A creampuff filled non-conference schedule helped the Gophers get off to a fast start, giving some hope that this team, fresh off a 9-22 season, with a roster comprised mostly of the same kids, could be dancing come mid-March. Since then, the Big Ten s

By Will Ojanen willaccnation.com I watch a lot of college basketball. I??m one of those people who, if given the opportunity, will watch college basketball on a Saturday for 12 hours. I try to watch as much of the ACC as I can, but given my location, that doesn??t happen as much as I would like. But here??s some things ACC related that have caught my attention. Two things to watch in terms of seeding for the conference tournament: Notre Dame is currently in line for no worse than a 4 seed in New York. The Irish could bump up to 3 with a Connecticut loss at Providence tonight tied with 11 to go or at home against Cincinnati on Saturday. Playing as the 4 seed in New York would mean a likely contest against Marquette on Thursday. The 3 seed will probably play the winner of West Virginia/Seton Hall. No brainer as to who we’d like to play there. Looki

This morning on ESPN??s Mike and Mike in the Morning show, former head coach Fran Frashilla said of the final foul call in regulation of the UCLA-Stanford game: ???I wanted to run into my bathroom and throw up.??? Fraschilla also said that because of the nature of NCAA officiating these days, referees can officiate a game in the Big East one night and one in the Big 10 the next night. But, according to Fraschilla: ???the Pac 10 is the one conference where the home team or the team that??s favored t
