A story in the Dallas Morning News warns that it may very soon be illegal and fineable to use a cell phone for calls or texting in a DISD school zone. Yeah, that’s all well and good to make that announcement, but what I really want to know is — who exactly are they expecting to enforce this law? As you know, I work out in the school zone every morning before classes. And I consistently see people speeding — parents, teachers, and bus drivers — which I’m pretty certain is illegal as well. But

I received the following e-mail today, and I think that it demonstrates perfectly what is wrong with America today, and why we are most likely doomed to a long and ugly dark period in our future: If you live in North Dallas we urge you to VOTE NO for the 2008 DISD Bond Election. The DISD Board has chosen to put a 1.3 billion dollar bond program on the table. The taxes of an average 1.2 million dollar home in Preston Hollow will go up by at least 600 a year. Why should we pay this when we c

Okay, this post is a response to comments on the last post, which somehow got picked up by the Dallas Morning News’ Dallas ISD blog, generating a flood of sitemeter hits and four anonymous comments. There was apparently some sort of kismet going on here because a someone from the Dallas News actually found my unlinked post, and b I used none of my frequent bad language which would have probably disqualified me from being linked by a respectable family paper. Weirdly enough, I’d never even hear

Woodrow Wilson High School Oh, man, now I know I??ve taken a dive off the wrong end. Rod Dreher is quoting me in support of his own point of view. Over on the editorialistas’ blog at The Dallas Morning News, Dreher’s writing about the ???Choose Woodrow??? editorial in today??s paper, which urges affluent white people to follow the lead of Lakewood and send their kids to public school. This morning I read that editorial with wistful pleasure. We don??t live in Lakewood, and we didn??t send our kid t

Brett Shipp Laughs Maniacally, Raises Arms in Air, Points Two Rigid Middle Fingers in Our General Direction
Back on November 21, we posted an email from a loyal FBvian questioning Brett Shipp??s report about a South Oak Cliff player and the possibility he was ineligible to compete in the state tourney, which SOC won. Today, DISD indeed found the player ineligible and SOC will forfeit its title. In related news, crow is not, repeat not, on the Turbulence Training diet. Lynn Flint Shaw Nice editorial in today’s Dallas Morning News asking, erm, Why wasn’t Lynn Flint Shaw charged with a felony rather than a misdemeanor for allegedly forging Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins’ signature? Only, one thing Dallas’ Only Daily fails to note today: Allen Gwinn’s been asking the same thing since Friday. And he’s got the docs — including the arrest warrant with the misdemeanor box checked off. But Gwinn’s such a nice guy he links to The Dallas Morning New

Two Men Who Nearly Ruined Dallas
Two Men Who Nearly Ruined Dallas Lori Stahl writes rhapsodically today in the News about retiring Federal Judges Barefoot Sanders and Jerry Buchmeyer. It is less a news story than an editorial, and a highly selective editorial at that. Nowhere does it mention that as of 2006, due to Judge Sanders?? social engineering over 30 years,?only 7,821 of DISD??s students?were white, comprising just 5% of the district??s total students when whites make up 49% of the district??s residents. And while the artic

from the Dallas comments thread: I am a student whose school used Everyday Math textbooks, and I was more than prepared for higher level math courses. However, this is because my math teachers had us put the books under our desk, and passed out real math textbooks, like Saxon Math instead. Because of the strong basic math foundation imparted by the traditional method, I have already been able to take both AB and BC calculus, and passed both AP tests with a five. I did see many other students st

DISD Now 316,000 Lighter
Last week came news that the Dallas Independent School District would be repaying federal grant money is was using rather inappropriately — like, 316,000 worth of federal grant money. That dough, provided by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant, was supposed to go to HIV prevention education efforts. Only, not so much. It spent the money on everything but HIV prevention education. Today, the feds make it official with the release, for the first time, of the original complai

Today, its a fine day. I was bored at home after doing my homework, so i decided to go out for a walk. I went to Heartland Mall which is near my house. I walked there. On my way there, I met one of my primary school friends. Coincidentally, he too was going to the Mall, running errands for his mother. We went to the mall together chattering. We talked about about our days in primary school. We really missed our primary school days so much that we wanted to go back in time. I followed him as he w

Here are some highlights from Mr. Warnock’s column: What has become painfully obvious to me is that there are two Dallases, and I’m not talking about the racial divide. Today, UIL reorganized the high school districts in Texas. Nothing just jaw-dropping. The Dallas Morning News decided to lead with Carter and Bryan Adams moving down to 4A. The true lead here is flippin’ DeSoto located in Southwest Dallas County placed in 11-5A with Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, North Mesquite, Tyler Lee and Tyler John Tyler.
